On Thursday December 8th 2011, in the premises of the Rectorate of the University of Sarajevo, a press conference on the occasion of presenting the EURAXESS Center B&H took place. The Center’s founding has been rated as one of the few positive developments in the Progress Report on Bosnia and Herzegovina to the EU accession.

Ms. Biljana Čamur, Deputy Minister of Civil Affairs in the Department of Science and Culture, Prof. Dr Hazim Bašić, Vice-Rector for Research, University of Sarajevo, and Mr. Mario Milanović, Consultant, EURAXESS Center B&H spoke about the project.

"The Ministry of Civil Affairs of B&H has prepared the Strategy for development of science in B&H for the period 2010 - 2015. In line with that Strategy, a key priority is related to B&H membership in major international associations related to the area of science and research, and of course a key priority is taking measures that will contribute to the researcher mobility” said Ms. Čamur.

In Bosnia and Herzegovina the implementation of the FP7 project "Development of Mobility Centers’ Network in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BAMONET)" has begun, which will, over the next three years, develop the network of Centers for researchers mobility at public universities. During his welcome speech, Prof. Dr Hazim Bašić, Vice-Rector for Research at the University of Sarajevo mentioned that the project is financed by the European Commission from the funds of the FP7 - Seventh Framework Programme; the PEOPLE programme area.

Participants in this project are the Ministry of Civil Affairs (project coordinator), the University of Banja Luka ("Bridgehead", partner) and the University of Sarajevo (partner).

In accordance with the project’s plan, setting up an umbrella  (EURAXESS Center B&H) and two Service Centers (University of Banja Luka and University of Sarajevo took place, with contact persons at other public universities. The intention is to have network expanded to other universities and institutions interested in science and research.
Vice-Rector Bašić pointed out the importance of establishing these centers in terms of implementation of doctoral studies, or third cycle studies. "It is well known that one of the strict recommendations that are related to doctoral studies is precisely the obligations of the study stay outside the home institution, or respectively the PhD candidates should carry out a part of research activities abroad. These Centers have adequate network of contact persons and precisely in this moment at the University of Sarajevo, the first phase of the training contact persons has been completed, who will act at the level of individual University member institutions in coordination with two Service Centers and with the state EURAXESS Center" said Vice-Rector  Bašić.

EURAXESS Center B&H Consultant, Mr. Milanović pointed out that these centers have a role to help local and foreign researchers to get informed about all factors relevant to their stay in B&H, important as well for their work, adding: "They will get all necessary information about Bosnia and Herzegovina and Sarajevo, the laws in force, visas, and other technical details. They will also be provided with help in connecting with institutions that are relevant to their research, while Service Centers will further help them during the work."
